Information on the ReGES study for parents of young adults

 

ReGES – What we do

ReGES is a scientific study designed to find out what makes the integration of young adults with a refugee background like your daughter or son into German society more difficult or more successful. Learning is an especially important topic for us – both in school and outside of it, for instance in language courses or in one’s personal life.

We would like to learn more about how young adults with a refugee background are doing several years after arriving in Germany in school, apprenticeship/vocational training or in their careers. Your child’s answers can help us improve the situation for people from many different countries of origin who live in Germany.

We would therefore like to invite your daughter or son to continue taking part in the study. This is the only way we can learn more about these young adults’ current situation.

 

How is the study conducted?

The study focuses on young adults like your daughter or son.

We survey the young adults regularly to better understand how they live and learn. We are mainly interested in learning how things are going for them and what they are doing right now. Moreover, we would like to learn more about their environment.

The “infas Institut für angewandte Sozialwissenschaft GmbH” institute conducts the ReGES surveys. And this is how the survey process works:

Your family will receive a letter and/or a notification via the my infas app. This allows your daughter or son to receive all of the latest information on the next survey.

An employee of the infas survey institute will visit your home to conduct the survey. Naturally, comprehensive hygiene measures are taken since the coronavirus pandemic still continues to play a major role in everyday life. Surveys are conducted in Arabic, German or English.
We store all information and data separately from the names and addresses of the participants. This means: No one who works with this information later on can find out who provided the answers.
We would also like to know how life is progressing for your daughter or son. This is why we would like to continue to survey her/him at regular intervals. However, the surveys are no longer conducted as frequently as before.

Which questions do we ask?

 

The ReGES study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current situation for young adults with a refugee background. This is why we ask them about their observations and experiences in Germany.

The following are examples of some of the questions we will ask your daughter or son as part of the study:

 

  • How would the young adults currently rate their language skills in German?
  • What school do the young adults attend or have they already graduated from school? Are they attending preparatory vocational courses, completing apprenticeship/vocational training, studying at university or do they already have a job?
  • How did the young adults prepare for their choice of apprenticeship, course of study or career? What were some areas where they would have appreciated more advice and support?
  • How satisfied are they with their current situation in school, preparatory vocational courses, their apprenticeship/vocational training or their career?

 

The answers to our questions make a valuable contribution to ensuring the success of the study.
